We sell bathroom tiles in Doral and throughout South Florida, which means we often speak with homeowners who are wondering which bathroom tile would be right for them.
There are a lot of different factors to consider, and nothing can replace going in-person to see your options and speak with an expert. That said, today we’re going to cover a few key things to keep in mind when shopping for bathroom tile.

Choose the Design
Porcelain offers nearly limitless design versatility, so how do you know where to start? If you’re not sure which tile to choose for your bathroom, it can be useful to look at other bathrooms to determine what you like.
Our friends at WhyTile recently discussed some of the most popular designs. Here are a few designs that have been particularly popular in 2022:
- Black and White
- Zellige
- Penny Tile
- Ribbons & Slats
Of course, if you’re still not sure what would look good in your room, it can also be a good idea to speak with an interior designer.

Choose the Color
Color is another area where you have a nearly unlimited variety of options to choose from. If you’re having trouble narrowing down ideas, it’s useful to consider what colors will work with the rest of your home.
It can also be a good idea to look at the Colors of the year. There are various organizations that put out Colors of the Year, as we’ve previously written about on this blog. Pink is looking to be a particularly popular color in 2023.
People generally tend to like soft tones in their bathrooms, which means it can be hard to go wrong with a soft green or blue. If you’re looking for something more dramatic, charcoal and jewel tones are also popular choices.

Practicalities
Of course, along with making sure that you’re satisfied with the design of the tile, you want to make sure it suits your needs. This is one of the reasons we so often recommend porcelain: along with offering all kinds of design options, it’s also extremely durable and easy to clean.
Practicality also necessitates finding a tile with the proper slip resistance and durability ratings, as well as one within your budget.
When shopping for tile, it’s important to make sure you know exactly how much you need, since it’s typically priced per square foot.

How Much Tile Do You Need?
Of course, once you’ve found the tile that you’re interested in purchasing, it’s useful to determine how much of it you’ll actually need. Once you’ve measured the space you’re looking to tile, it’s important to make sure you buy an additional 10%.
In some situations, it can even be a good idea to get a little more than 10%. This is useful for any unexpected issues that come up, such as if a tile is damaged at some point and you want to replace it.
