D&B Tile and Crossville Launch New Tile Line at the Addison in Boca Raton

Oceanaire Outdoor DisplayFrom the moment you enter The Addison's Banyan covered courtyard in Boca Raton, you step into a world where gracious dining and entertaining are always in style. Originally built in 1926 by acclaimed architect Addison Mizner, the Addison is steeped in Old World elegance and charm, which made it the perfect location to launch a new and elegant line of porcelain tiles from American manufacturer Crossville, Inc. D&B Tile and Crossville welcomed leading design professionals to avenue built 90 years ago by a leading architect responsible for much of South Florida’s unique style.

Doug IngamWe sat down with Doug Ingham, Southern Divisional Sales Mgr. for Crossville, Inc. to learn about this new launch.

"We were the first producer of large unit porcelain tile in America. Our factories are located in central Tennessee because of a high quality labor force and close proximity to the bulk of material needed when producing porcelain tile.

"In addition to great people and responsible raw material sourcing, we have the rare honor of being classified a net consumer of waste. This means that we produce a greater volume of finished product than the raw materials we extract from the earth. We achieve this by reclaiming 100 percent of the scrap porcelain from damaged pre-consumer porcelain sanitary ware from the Toto plumbing fixture company in Atlanta, GA. Full containers of damaged toilets are received weekly into Crossville. The fixtures are crushed and processed and utilized in 100 percent of the tile we produce.

"We are here today at the beautiful Addison Restaurant in Boca Raton to show some of Crossville's newer and upcoming product lines. One of the lines shown here tonight is Oceanaire. We feel it will be very successful architecturally here in South Florida. We’ve given it that name because the random non-directional facial characteristics look like windblown waves or sand. It is quite random. We wanted to be in a venue large enough for us to lay samples on the floor so that our invited architects and designers can see the five colors and both finishes in the 18x36 size to see the movement in the product and how it looks.

"We are also showcasing a product called Altered State, which is a metallic like surface also made In large sizes up to 18x36. As a backdrop to this are some of the newer colors in our Laminam line which we introduced a few years ago. Laminam is our large porcelain panel line that is growing in popularity exponentially. To add some glitz to the arrangement, we set a table with our newer Groove Glass tile line. This eight color, six-size line of vertical glass tile offers unlimited design potential.

"At Crossville, we produce primarily porcelain tile only. The difference between our product and others is the superior product production and quality control. Each tile we produce is touched by the human hand. We operate with very similar equipment to other manufacturers. Quality production is in the hands of the equipment operators.

"After it is fired it is run through a sorting process where a person examines every tile to make certain it is as close to perfect as possible. We have a patented process called Cross-Sheen® in which every piece is pre coated before firing. Cross-Sheen® fuses the surface pores, making it very simple to maintain. Ease of maintenance is one of the reasons why Crossville Tile is chosen in car dealerships and fast food restaurants nation wide.
