When Interior Designer Jeannette Torres decided to retile her home in Boynton Beach, she wanted the look and feel of marble but without the costly and time-consuming maintenance that inevitably came with it.
“We spent a lot of time shopping in
tile and marble stores in Miami but only found pricing that was completely out of our budget.
“Then we began looking closer to home. When we walked into the
D&B Tile location in Delray Beach, we were greeted by Zsak Vincente. He immediately made us feel comfortable and spent time learning what we hoped to accomplish within a specific budget. The look and feel of marble was our goal and Zsak and D&B Tile delivered exactly what we needed and within our budget.”
Throughout recorded history, marble has been used to idolize leaders and build magnificent structures. including the Taj Mahal which is clad almost entirely in marble. Even the Ancient Greeks knew the value of creating monuments out of marble. The Odeon of Herodes Atticus Theatre was comprised almost entirely of marble almost 5,000 years ago. The Washington Monument is made of three different types of marble and is one of the most widely visited monuments in all of America.
Other notable marble structures include the Supreme Court building in Washington, DC and the statue of David by Michelangelo. One of the world’s largest concrete domes, the Pantheon was constructed from marble in 125 A.D. Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subjected to the heat and pressure of metamorphism. It is composed primarily of the mineral calcite (CaCO3) and usually contains other minerals, such as clay minerals, micas, quartz, pyrite, iron oxides, and graphite. Under the conditions of metamorphism, the calcite in the limestone recrystallizes to form a rock that is a mass of interlocking calcite crystals.
The belief that marble can be cleaned like other stones such as granite and natural stone is a myth. Marble, being a softer stone, is susceptible to staining, chipping, and even breakage.
“When we discovered that D&B Tile carried a number of lines of
polished porcelain tile that had the look and feel of marble at a reasonable price, we knew we had our answer. Zsak told me that he could discount their already reasonable price if we decided to retile the entire home. He did and we placed an order for more than 4,000 sq/ft of rectified polished porcelain tile that now graces the floor throughout our home and gives us the look, feel and richness of marble without the worry of stains and maintenance. We are extremely pleased with the tile and what it has done to improve the appearance of our home.
“My company is MDS Window Treatment and Design, Inc. We specialize in window trimming. We’ve been in business for 15 years. We do it all and complete remodeling of high-end residential properties. It depends on what kind of furniture or styles the customers like. We design specifically for the customers. We work with a number of homebuilders but mostly private homeowners.
