E&S creates their reclaimed wood tiles by taking down barns that are 75 years old to 150 years old from all over the United States. Their team removes nails from all the boards then wire brushes them. Once the boards are bare, the E&S team takes them back to their factory and mills them to a particular thickness, followed by drying them in a kiln to ensure nothing remains inside the boards. After drying, the boards are cut and sorted by color. Finally, the pieces are hand made into tiles. E&S says, "From barn-to-box, each piece of wood gets touched 64 times.
