Ken and Michele’s Remodeling Project

When Ken and Michele bought their lakefront home in Palm Beach Gardens, the former owner was seasonal and retained much of the builder grade appliances and trim. When the D&B Tile team stopped by for the photo shoot and interview, the remodeling project was nearing completion but most of the furnishings and wall art were not in place.

“We bought the house knowing it needed a lot of work. We took it all the way back down to cinderblock walls. Tile was obviously a major factor in our remodeling. We shopped online and found D&B Tile. Vince McIntyre at the Palm Beach location was just fantastic. We told him what we wanted, and he showed us samples. He was extremely helpful, as was the entire crew at the store. Also, D&B Tile had a huge selection from which to choose,” said Ken.

According to Michele, “We were just looking for a 33x33 and they had 36x36, so we went for the larger tile. Then they had what was comparable throughout the house but had the same tile in the matte finish in 24x48, which goes perfectly for the length in the bathroom. This also provided us with a matte finish for the bathroom area and that reduces the possibility of a slip and fall.”

“We had marble tile in our last house, but this is perfect because it is porcelain tile that looks like marble and holds up better with less maintenance. Vince, Bill Bullock in the warehouse, and Bernette Toombs Acker, customer service, were our key people. Bernette made certain all the details were completed. One other note, we had 15 pallets of tile throughout this house and only three pieces arrived broken. D&B Tile replaced them as soon as they were reported,” said Ken.

“In the bathrooms, we wanted bullnose where the wall meets the floor. D&B took care of that at their Sawgrass location. They were done within a week. We have not brought anyone in to see the house because it is not complete, but we will. However, we have recommended D&B Tile to many of our friends.”

Why Porcelain Tiles Are Perfect for Any Remodel Project

Porcelain tile in West Palm Beach has gained immense popularity in the world of remodeling, and for good reason. Many homeowners choose them because of their versatility, durability, and aesthetic appeal.

Here, we delve into the reasons why porcelain tiles are the perfect fit for any remodel project:

Durability and Longevity

Due to their dense composition and high firing temperatures, porcelain tiles are incredibly resilient to wear and tear, making them an ideal choice for high-traffic areas.

Whether it's in the kitchen, bathroom, or living room, porcelain tiles can withstand daily use and maintain their beauty for years.

Low Maintenance

Porcelain tiles are not only beautiful but also easy to maintain. They have a very low absorption rate, preventing liquids and contaminants from penetrating the surface. Therefore, stains remain on the tile's surface, allowing for easy cleanup and maintenance.

The low-maintenance quality of porcelain tile is particularly appealing for busy households or those looking to reduce the upkeep of their remodel.

Water and Moisture Resistance

In areas prone to moisture exposure, such as bathrooms and kitchens, porcelain tiles excel. They are non-porous, meaning they won't absorb water or harbor mold and mildew. This resistance to moisture makes them a smart choice for spaces where spills and humidity are common.

Temperature and Heat Tolerance

Porcelain tiles are highly heat-resistant, so they’re suitable for use around fireplaces or in outdoor spaces. Since they're heated at very high temperatures during production, they’re solid, sturdy, and less likely to expand or contract when the temperature changes.

They can handle extreme temperature fluctuations without cracking or warping, ensuring they maintain their integrity over time.

Eco-Friendly Option

For environmentally conscious homeowners, porcelain tiles are a sustainable choice. They are made from natural materials, including clay, and are typically produced with fewer harmful chemicals than some other flooring options.

These tiles are also more durable than other alternatives, which means they won't need frequent replacement and produce less waste.

Cost-Effective

While the initial cost of porcelain tiles may be higher than some other materials, their long-term cost-effectiveness is undeniable. Their durability and low maintenance requirements mean you'll save on repair and replacement costs over the years.

Allergy-Friendly

Porcelain tiles are a boon for individuals with allergies or respiratory sensitivities. Unlike carpet and some other flooring materials, porcelain tiles do not harbor allergens such as dust mites, pollen, or pet dander. Once again, their non-porous nature shines through, as there are no tiny spaces for allergens to hide.

Regular cleaning, such as sweeping or mopping, can effectively remove harmful particles from the surface, promoting cleaner indoor air quality and a healthier living environment.

Zero VOC Emissions

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that can off-gas from certain building materials and contribute to indoor air pollution.

Porcelain tiles are an excellent choice for those concerned about indoor air quality because they do not release VOCs. They’re an eco-friendly and health-conscious option for your remodel project.

You can breathe easy knowing the air in your home remains free of harmful VOC emissions, creating a safer and more comfortable living space for you and your family.
